Capital of the homonymous province, Imperia is one of the main cities of the Liguria region, in a particularly fascinating stretch of the western Ligurian Riviera, called “Riviera dei Fiori”, that extends from Andora to Ventimiglia.
Imperia is a popular tourist destination thanks to its beautiful sea, pleasing climate all year round and many leisure opportunities for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
The history of the city of Imperia may be relatively recent (the municipality was established in 1923 by the merger of Oneglia and Porto Maurizio), the events that have affected its territory, though, no doubt originated from afar: areas located on the banks of the Impero river (which has given the name of the new municipality and today it passes through the town) were inhabited in ancient times by Ligurian populations then ruled by the Romans. Both of them were subjugated to the invasions of the Goths and raids of the Saracens, and passed under the dominion of Genoese families.
In 1576 Oneglia was sold by the Doria family to the Savoy, and since then it followed a destiny different from Porto Maurizio under the control of the Republic of Genoa. Countless series of monuments in Imperia will allow you to have a rich experience in terms of art and culture for your holiday in one of the comfortable facilities that the city has to offer.
A holiday in apartments and hotels in Imperia also gives the opportunity to take advantage of the suggestive proposals that the coast and Inland of Imperia offer, in terms of nature landscapes.
