Diversity and uniqueness of Marche region

The region of Marche includes the provinces of Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata Pesaro and Urbino. Located in central Italy, it is the only Italian region characterized by plural name. This plurality perfectly matches local heritage and vocation to the autonomy of each single zone.

Geographical location is composed of mountainous part, formed by the Umbrian-Marche Apennines and hilly prevalence that evoke the history of Marche to end with low and sandy coasts. Local beaches bathed in crystalline water are represented by Senigallia, Gabicce mare, Pesaro, Fano, Civitanova, San Benedetto del Tronto and the Riviera del Conero.

Marche is also known as WWE oasis with unique species protected and formed into numerous national and regional parks. We are talking about the parks of Sibillini Mountains, Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga, not to mention the park of Monte Cornero, Gola della Rossa, Frasassi, Sasso Simone, Simoncello and Monte San Bartolo.

All lovers of history and small villages will definitely appreciate Marche for its hilly landscape formed by expanses of orchards and vineyards on the hills of Picentine and in Esino Valley with stately homes and old houses still inhabited nowadays. Among the places of interest you will find Cingoli, the balcony of the Marche, Corinaldo and its inviolate walls, Esanatoglia with its seven bell towers as well as Servigliano, Grottammare, Macerata Feltria, San Ginesio and Montecassiano.

The diversity of the territory is reflected in local tradition of food and wine composed mainly of dishes based on pork, marinated lamb and truffles such as those of Acqualagna and Sant'Agata Feltria. The scents of the sea are revised in the Brodetto containing more than 14 fish specialties enriched with tomatoes or saffron. Experienced gourmets will like Pecorino di Talamello, Vincigrassi, Ascolane Olives, Ciauscolo accompanied by excellent wines including Falerio dei Colli Ascolani, Rosso Piceno and Rosso Piceno Superiore.
